sacraments

Baptism:

  • Parents MUST BE registered, participating members of this parish for at least 3 months before a baptism can be scheduled.
  • At least one parent must be a baptized Catholic
  • Parents and godparents/sponsors must take a baptismal preparation class.
  • There is to be only one male sponsor/godparent or one female sponsor/godparent or one of each (Can. #873).
  • Sponsors/godparents must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Sponsors/godparents MUST be confirmed and be a Catholic in good standing (Can. #874.3); an affidavit must be obtained from our faith formation education office and signed by the sponsors’ parish priest and affixed with the church seal.
  • The following documents are required before the Sacrament of baptism can be administered:

    • Copy of child’s birth certificate
    • Copy of parent’s baptismal certificate
    • Signed letters or affidavits from sponsors/godparents
    • Copy of baptismal class certificate indicating completion

    Once all requirements are completed then contact the faith formation office to schedule the baptism. Baptismal preparation classes and baptisms are by appointment only.

    • If a child is 5 years of age or older they must participate in a year of catechism classes before they can receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
    • Adults wishing to receive this sacrament must participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program to receive full initiation. Contact the faith formation office for more information.

    First Reconciliation/First Communion:

    • Parents MUST BE registered, participating members of this parish for at least 3 months.
    • A child must have received the Sacrament of Baptism before they can receive these two sacraments.
    • The Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist (Communion) are usually administered to children who are at least 7 years of age or in second grade.
    • The child MUST have completed at least two years of sacramental preparation before they are eligible to receive these two sacraments.
    • If a child has reached the age of 7 or is in the second grade and has not participated in any catechism program then he/she is not eligible to receive these sacraments until they have completed the required two-year preparation.
    • A child past the age of 7 or the second grade may receive these sacraments provided they have completed the required two-year preparation.
    • A child MUST receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation BEFORE they can receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist (Communion).

    Confirmation:

    • Parents MUST BE registered, participating members of this parish for at least 3 months.
    • A child must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, and First Eucharist (Communion) before receiving this sacrament.
    • The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually administered to students in grades 9 thru 12 or ages 14 to 17.
    • This sacrament usually requires at least two years of preparation. The amount of preparation time is determined by the child’s performance on an entrance exam.
    • A meeting with the parent(s)/guardian(s), participant, and faith formation director is required before entrance into this program.
